"We Need More Than Prayer Right Now"

“Lord almighty, blessed is the one who trusts in you.”

Psalm 84:12

Normally I try to remain a little neutral in regards to politics and religion, but after what just happened, I feel compelled to share my thoughts. I know that through speaking out about my love and passion for our Lord I may turn some of you away, and if that happens it’s okay because God does not call us to remain silent about Him so we can have lots of friends, social media followers and content likes, He calls us to share Him. 

“Blessed are you who are persecuted in my name.”

James 1:5

So here is what I have to share:

The title of this post is not something I said, or think, but a comment from someone else after the tragic and devastating loss of Charlie Kirk. 

My question to that comment is this- what is there that is bigger than prayer? What could we, us weak, sinful, broken human race, possibly do that is greater than the power of our Lord? 

The book of Genesis, chapter 11, talks about when people thought they didn’t need God. Their pride and self sufficiency made them think they could reach Heaven without God by building a tower that would reach the Heavens, but God showed them that He is the only way. 

The Tower of Babel is one of many examples that prove how we are nothing without our Lord. We NEED Him and so we NEED prayer. 

So the answer to my own question, and response to that comment is this- 

There is nothing more than prayer because God is our only hope right now. Our world is so tragically broken and divided and the issues that we are facing are a result of that. 

Psalm 84:12 tells us exactly what we need to do. We need to TRUST in our Lord. We need to open our hearts to hear Him and, like everyone who was open and trusting in Him before us, He will show us the way. 

It’s clear, with the state of our world, that we don’t got this. We can’t manage without God. People have been trying to navigate independent of Him and look at where we are going… look at where it’s gotten us so far. 

So yes, what we need right IS PRAYER! We need to pray for the strength and courage to do what Charlie was doing- to be fearless in proclaiming the word of the Lord, to stand up for what we know is right and to not cower to peer pressure in fear of losing friends or social media followers. 

We need to pray for God to guide us through this battle of good vs evil the world seems to be in right now, to open our hearts to not only hear Him, but also follow Him. 

And we need to pray that more people, preferably everyone, somehow find God. That last one seems like a tall order, but look at all the miracles He’s already pulled off. Perhaps, with enough of us praying, that one could happen too. 

Anyway, I’m going to wrap this up now… with a prayer:

Heavenly Father, please hear our prayers. Please help us to find the strength and courage to not only follow you, but follow you fearlessly and reverently.  We ask that you give us each what we need individually to confidently proclaim your word and share our love and devotion to you with the world. And finally, loving Father, we ask you to be with Erika and her babies. To lift her up and carry her through this time of unfathomable grief and loss. May her and her babies feel your loving presence and find comfort in knowing Charlie is with you and watching over them. We pray this, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
