Hi, I'm Sarah - Mama of 4, Homeschooler and the heart behind Something Simple

I started Something Simple by accident — or maybe by divine design. What began as a few homemade snacks for my Pilates class and a balm for my nephew’s eczema slowly turned into a cookbook, a clean skincare line, and a community I never expected but deeply treasure.

I’m not a wellness influencer. I’m a mom from rural Saskatchewan who wanted safer, simpler options for my family — and when I couldn’t find them, I made them.

My Story

Small-Town Roots

I grew up in a tiny town called Middle Lake, Saskatchewan — not Meadow Lake (which is what most Albertans think). We had about 300 people, and my graduating class had nine. We didn’t grow up with much, but we had each other. That shaped everything for me.

From Teaching to Tallow

I spent over a decade teaching elementry school, often working with children from vulnerable backgrounds. My degree focused on early childhood development, psychology, and sociology — and what I saw in the classroom changed how I thought about everything, especially food. Kids who ate processed lunches just couldn’t focus or learn the same way. It lit a fire in me.

At the same time, I became a personal trainer and later a certified Pilates instructor. I’ve always loved learning how the body works — and what it really needs to thrive.

Becoming a Mom Changed Everything

When I became a mom, everything shifted. I didn’t want to feed my kids anything I couldn’t pronounce. I breastfed exclusively, made all their baby food from scratch, and slowly cut out processed foods and fake ingredients from our home. No food dyes. No MSG. No white sugar. Just real food and a lot of trial and error.

I also chose to homeschool, because I wanted to be the one raising, feeding and forming my kids — and I’m incredibly grateful to be able to do that.

The Cookbook That Sparked it All

During my Pilates classes, women would ask what to eat after their workout — so I started bringing snacks. Then I started giving out recipes. Eventually, someone said, “You should make

a cookbook,” and I laughed… but then I did. I printed the first 100 copies at home until I wore out my printer. That cookbook now holds 90+ family-tested recipes, and it’s still growing.

From Ingredients I Trust

Eventually, I had the same realization about what I was putting on our bodies. I tried all the “clean” brands — but they still had questionable ingredients or unnecessary preservatives. I finally said, “Enough.” I made my first tallow balm for my nephew’s eczema with just two ingredients. It worked. So I shared it. And here we are.

Why I Do This

This business is not about becoming a millionaire. I don’t want the big house or the boat. I want connection. I want trust. I want to make wellness affordable and actually clean — not just “clean-looking.”

I offer free local delivery because I love meeting the people who use my products. I keep my prices low because I believe every family deserves access to safe, simple products. And I build everything I make around this truth: If I wouldn’t use it on my baby, I won’t sell it to you.

My Values
  • Faith First: I believe God calls us to serve others, not sell them short. I’m here to help, not to hustle.

  • Family Matters: I’m a wife and mom of four first — and they’re the reason I do this.

  • Simplicity is Enough: You don’t need 40-step routines or expensive products. You need something simple.

  • Transparency Always: No hidden ingredients. No greenwashing. Just stuff you recognize — and probably already eat.

  • Community Over Profit: Whether you’re shopping or just stopping by to say hi, you’re welcome here.

Thanks for being here. I am so glad you found Something Simple.
