The Resolution Failure!

Did you make a New Year’s resolution?

I asked a lot of people at the end of December who said they weren’t going to make one because they never work out and then they just feel like a failure.

I feel that! I’ve been there.

Mine have typically gone like this:

As December nears an end and my clothes start to feel a bit more snug thanks to all the delicious indulgences, I start planning the “new year - new me” concept that I will implement first thing on January 1st.

I have it all figured out!

  • I WON’T miss a workout, no matter how tired I am!

  • I will hone in on my nutrition and make EVERYTHING homemade and nutritious.

  • I will allow NOTHING to derail me and THIS YEAR … I. WILL. SUCCEED!

But then January comes and goes and life continues to happen as it did the previous year. It slowly slips back to the way it always was and I inevitably feel like I’ve failed. 😔

Sound familiar? I’m sure I’m not the only one. 😆

New Year’s resolutions are always set with great intentions… usually to better ourselves in some way, but it’s the plan and expectations that set us up for failure.

Often, and I’m definitely guilty of this, we make plans are too big and don’t fit into our current lives very easily, if they did we’d have already implemented them successfully.

So that brings us to the whole, “I’m not making a resolution, I’m just going to fail anyways.”

I get it! But I don’t necessarily agree.

Failure is NOT a bad thing. Failure means we’ve TRIED! And trying is better than not trying. So even if we fail, we should still be proud. AND failure also teaches us something.

So instead of looking at it is as, “I failed, I’m done trying.” We should be looking at it as, “I didn’t accomplish my goal… why? What can I learn from it and how can I change my plan next time around?”

That’s what I have done for this year. I’ve assessed my wins and losses from previous years and have tried to adapt my goal accordingly.

What’s my goal? The same it is every year. Be the healthiest version of myself I can be.

How am I going to succeed this year? With different measures of “healthy” that fit into the life of a mom with 4 small kids.

Here’s what I’m going for:

  • Working out only when I feel rested. And if I don’t, allowing myself to nap during the day. (because i'm on maternity leave and can)

  • Being intentional and REASONABLE about my nutrition.

  • Not worrying about the scale (the battery died anyways and I don’t plan on replacing it😝) and instead focussing on how I feel- happy, energized (as much as one can be when you’re still nursing at night), confident & at peace.

  • Allowing myself to adjust throughout the year as needed and not feeling like I have to stick to a rigid plan that doesn’t flow as life does.

So this year let’s focus on simple, reasonable goals that ebb and flow as our lives do. Let’s not be scared to fail, but instead accept each attempt as one step closer and an opportunity to learn and improve. 🤗

So if you haven’t set a goal, it’s not too late. And if your plan is to be a healthier, better you, feel free to follow me on IG and/or FB for simple ways to implement a healthier lifestyle. 🥰❤️

Thank you for your blog and your wonderful products.

My new year resolutions are to keep things simple and clear out things we haven't used for ages. I guess a declutter year! I hope I can stick to it. If not, there's always next year! Lol!
