What is tallow & why should I use it?
Tallow is rendered fat from animals. Ours comes from grass-fed cattle. Tallow is rich in vitamins A, D, E, K, & B12 along with fatty acids. It is deeply nourishing, healing and gentle on our skin as it's fatty acid profile is remarkably similar to ours.
Where does your tallow come from?
Our tallow is locally sourced from grass-fed cattle. We use only suet (fat from around the kidney area) and never trim fat, ensuring our products maintain the highest nutrient profile possible, which is rendered and purified ourselves in our very own kitchen.
How do I store your products?
Our tallow products should be stored in a cool, dry place. Because we do not use preservatives, do not allow water or any sort of moisture to enter the products. If this does happen simply leave the lid off for a few days and allow the water to evaporate. Tallow is also temperature sensitive and could possibly change in texture if it freezes or heats too much. Don't worry, the quality of the tallow is still the same, it just may feel slightly different, but will still melt beautifully into your skin when applying.
Are your products baby & pregnancy safe?
Absolutely! Because we use only the cleanest, purest ingredients and never use essential oils, fillers, preservatives or anything unnatural, our products are all safe, gentle and nourishing for our sweetest little bundles and blessed mamas.
My tallow was smooth & creamy when I bought it, but now has hard, little balls in it, why?
Tallow is very temperature sensitive and must be stored in a consistently cool, dry location to avoid texture changes.
If your tallow is in a warmer environment where it melts or softens and then is returned to a cooler environment, the fats can separate, creating little hard balls. And similarly, if your tallow freezes and then thaws, this will also effect the fats, causing them to possibly separate and form hard, little balls.
This absolutely DOES NOT effect the quality or effectiveness of the product, only the texture. And those little balls will melt into your skin, just like the rest of the tallow, it just takes a second longer.
We like to look at this way- similar to how truly raw, unprocessed honey will harden and crystallize over time, this texture change is a sign of its purity.
The same with our tallow! Because we don’t use anything artificial or anything to preserve, our tallow is as pure, clean and natural as it can get, and the texture change that comes with temperature changes is proof of that.
If you’d like to avoid texture changes, please make sure to follow the instructions on the back of the label: store in a cool, dry location, do not melt and do not freeze.
If your tallow does goes through this change, please don’t worry. It’s still the amazing product you purchased and you can now rest assured of its purity and quality!
What do you mean when you say "subtle, earthy scent"?
Because we don't use essential oils to add scents to our tallow, any scent that a product has is from infusing it with organic herbs and botanicals. With that said, things like dried chamomile and calendula flowers, along with marshmallow root naturally have an earthy scent and so when products are infused with them they take on a very subtle, earthy scent. Most people say they don't smell anything, but some who are very scent-sensitive can smell the natural scent added through these items.
