Chocolate Protein Ice Cream

I have a serious sweet tooth, especially for anything chocolate, cookies or ice cream!
I LOVE ice cream! I honestly don’t know who doesn’t. But what I don’t love is all the sugar and artificial crap in the stuff you buy from the store.
Did you know that there are food dyes in VANILLA ICE CREAM!?!? Like, what for!?!? But there are, check the ingredients! I was so disappointed when I first discovered that. I feel like nothing is safe, clean or healthy anymore.
And, if you know me personally, or have been following my social media accounts for a bit, then you know that not having treats isn’t an option.
Instead I try to find ways to make my favourite indulgences healthy... WIN, WIN!
I’ve been on the healthy ice cream train for a while now- not actually eating healthy ice cream, but experimenting with recipes of my own and from others.
One thing for me though is that I want an ice cream that doesn’t just cut the junk, but also fuels me. I want a protein packed ice cream!
And guys, I think I’ve made it!
After playing around with different high-protein dessert recipes, I suddenly came up with an idea at 2 o’clock in the morning while nursing Simon.
The next morning I tried it and it was almost a hit! I was just too excited and didn’t freeze it long enough. So I tried it a second time, froze it for longer and NAILED IT!!! It had an ice creamy texture, tasted AMAZING and was super low sugar and high protein!
Now, because this isn’t full of preservatives and artificial crap, it doesn’t act like store-bought ice cream in the long run, and what I mean by that is that it doesn't freeze well long term.
This is best eaten right away because if you don’t eat it all and decide to keep it in the freezer overnight to enjoy the next day, it does get pretty hard. With that said, just let it sit on your counter for 15-20 minutes to soften a bit and you’re good to go. But for me, when I want ice cream, I want it now, and I sort of turn into a child and don’t like waiting 😂.
So if you're anything like me and tired of waiting for the recipe while I babble, I'll share it now!
Ingredients:
1 cup cottage cheese (I used the liquid measuring cup to measure this)
1 cup plain, Greek yogurt (again, used the liquid measuring cup)
1 scoop chocolate protein powder (we love the LeanFit brand from Costco . The price isn’t absurd and the ingredients are super clean! I have no affiliation with that brand, it’s just what we like).
2 Tbsp pure maple syrup
2 Tbsp cocoa powder
Instructions:
Toss it all in a blender and blend until smooth.
Freeze for 3 - 4 hours for the best texture and enjoy!
Oh, and for an extra little treat, try adding shredded, dark chocolate on top!
Now, like I said, the texture of this can be finicky depending on how long you freeze it for. But let’s be realistic, when it comes to making healthier versions of our favorite treats we have to accept reality, and that is that HEALTHIER means cutting the crap ingredients which are what make the tastes and textures we’ve come to know and love.
So play around with how long you freeze this for to find the texture that works best for you and enjoy a delicious treat that works WITH your body, not AGAINST it.
I hope you love this! And thanks so much for reading!
God Bless,
Sarah ❤️🥰❤️
